Orthodontics is one of the most important components of complex dentistry.
Until recently, orthodontics was a science of correction of malpositioned teeth and jaws. With the growing demands of patients on the quality of orthodontic treatment and the emergence of new advanced technologies, it became apparent to widen the boundaries of orthodontics and interest in new problems and issues of concern to modern humans.
The purpose of orthodontic treatment is to:
creating equal dental arcade and an ideal ratio of the upper and lower jaw;
achieving a good face profile;
building an attractive smile;
normalization of the function of the temporomandibular joint and chewing muscles;
guaranteeing a stable aesthetic and functional occlusion (bite).
According to various data from 50% to 80% of young children already require orthodontist’s examination. Most of the bite pathologies begin to form at an early age when teething.
The reasons for the occurrence of problems is not only a hereditary predisposition but also harmful habits and improper feeding of the child. Unfortunately, most of these pathologies keep being unnoticed by parents.
Curved teeth are considered a minor, insignificant problem. Bite pathologies accompany the development of caries and its complications, gum disease and early tooth loss, disorders of the temporomandibular joint, speech disorders, common diseases and often affect the aesthetics of the face, and, as a result, complex social adaptation of the child among other children. Predominantly orthodontist visits occur in late childhood or adulthood. Unfortunately, with age, the pathology of the bite increases, and then more expensive treatment will be needed for a longer time and may require tooth extraction, and in some cases, surgery.
